The centerpieces you select for your wedding will be the main decorative element of the reception. That is why choosing the right ones is so important! With so many choices, it can be difficult to pick one favorite design. These are some ideas for simple but elegant centerpieces that would enhance any wedding.
Flowers are not the only possibility for centerpieces. Some easy and attractive designs can be created around fresh fruit as well. For an autumn wedding, take a large clear glass footed vase and fill to the top with crisp red apples. Surround the vase with small floating candles in an accent color such as pumpkin orange or kiwi green, and you will have affordable centerpieces which will add a big splash of color to your reception. This same concept can be done using other fruits for different seasons, such as big footed bowls of lemons and limes for a sunny citrus color palette at a summer wedding.
White flowers always look elegant, and they can be used in infinite ways. One gorgeous idea for an all-white wedding is to use large garden urns for the centerpiece vessels. Fill them with clouds of white baby's breath (which is awful as a filler, but surprisingly gorgeous when it is the feature flower) for an ethereal table decoration. This looks great for a wedding done primarily in shades of cream. Not only could the bride wear white, but she could attire her attendants in cream colored dresses with pearl bridesmaid jewelry. The whole wedding will feel like it is floating on a cloud.
Individual centerpieces can be a nice alternative to one large arrangement in the middle of each table. For a classic preppy wedding, place a silver mint julep cup in front of each place setting. Fill with a single large blossom, such as a garden rose or a lush pink peony. The flowers will look so pretty circling around the table, and you can give the mint julep cups as your wedding favors. To fill in the center of the dinner tables, use tall candelabras with white taper candles. This would be a great design for a wedding where the bridesmaid dresses are pink silk organza, accented with pearl bridesmaid jewelry.
For a modern twist on simple but elegant centerpieces, consider creating round balls using Styrofoam and carnations. Completely cover the round forms with a single color of the ruffly blossoms for a very unique and stylish centerpiece. A trio of balls in different sizes makes a great looking display. You might wish to use levels to set the flower balls on to create a variety of heights, adding even more visual interest. This is a neat project for the diy bride, and will look very cool without breaking your design budget.
Another terrific idea for simple but elegant centerpieces is to create rows of vases down long family-style reception tables. Lay a runner down the middle of the table, layered over the tablecloth, to create a band of color on which to set your vases. Small glass vases in an assortment of jewel tones would be chic for an evening wedding, or for a daytime reception, use white vases with a variety of textures. Fill with seasonal flowers for centerpieces that cannot be beat!
