Who doesn't love chocolate? As one of nature's most perfect foods, not to mention one of the most romantic, chocolate and weddings are made to go together. These are some ideas for chocolatey treats you can serve at your wedding to make it extra tasty.
Let's start with the cake. There is no law that wedding cakes have to be white. In fact, I can almost guarantee that most of your guests will be thrilled to discover a chocolate cake at your reception! If you want to keep the look traditional, opt for white frosting over the chocolate cake, or throw tradition to the wind, and go all chocolate. A deep rich chocolate frosting looks incredible decorated with purple or red flowers or with a geometric design in a contrasting color done in fondant. Brides who cannot part with the idea of the classic white wedding cake can still introduce a bit of chocolate to their weddings by ordering a chocolate grooms' cake – yum!
A popular idea in recent years has been the chocolate fountain. Dramatic and fun, it is a sure fire crowd pleaser. A flowing cascade of melting chocolate is the centerpiece of the fountain. It is then surrounded by all sorts of delicious edibles to dip into the chocolate; let's face, few foods are not improved by a coating of melted chocolate! Fresh fruits like large ripe strawberries, banana slices, and chunks of pineapple would be a great place to start. Other crowd favorites include marshmallows, cubes of pound cake, brownies, caramels, and cookies. And don't forget about the excellent salty and sweet combination; pretzels are a must for any chocolate fountain.
Chocolate is one of the most classic wedding favors, as well. There are countless possibilities. You could
opt for an elegant pair of handmade truffles in a gold box, which is perfect for a black tie soiree where the bride wears a beaded gown and glamorous crystal bridal jewelry. Or have fun ordering customized M&M candies in your wedding colors for favors. For a wedding which takes place during the Christmas season, how about the holiday classic treat chocolate peppermint bark? It would be a fantastic favor in a personalized keepsake tin, especially for a smaller wedding. Then there are unique favors such as chocolate lollipops with each guest's picture on them; great when you want an edible favor with a photo element.
Of course, a marvelous way to introduce the joy of chocolate into your wedding is with a candy station. This has become a wedding mainstay in recent years because everyone loves candy! Set up a table with elegant jars full of your favorite chocolates, from nonpareils to Hershey's kisses to Tootsie Rolls. This is a great idea for any style of wedding; simply match the candy display to the rest of your reception. If you love the sparkle of chandeliers and crystal bridal jewelry, display your confections in cut crystal vases with small silver scoops. For a more modern wedding, tall cylinders candy all wrapped in your wedding colors is fabulous. Or opt for the classic good looks of large glass apothecary jars. However you choose to display them, your guests are sure to be delighted with the chocolates!
Looking for still more ways to use chocolate in your wedding? Consider special treats like rich European drinking chocolate, which is an elegant alternative to coffee after the meal. Or have your chef create a sophisticated sauce for the entree using bittersweet chocolate as an ingredient. Can't get enough chocolate for your wedding? Top it all off with an extravagant sculpture carved out of chocolate to really wow your guests!
